What Can You Customize on a JILU OEM or ODM Range Hood?
Six customization layers cover roughly 95% of what private-label buyers ask for across our 2023-2025 OEM pipeline. We split these into structural, electrical, cosmetic, and packaging categories so the spec sheet stays reviewable. Anything not listed below is a special project and gets a feasibility review before we quote.
Customization Depth by Layer
| Layer | Customization Options | Lead Time Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Structural | Body dimensions, cutout, duct diameter, mounting bracket geometry, intake grille pattern | +5-10 days for non-standard cutout |
| Electrical | Voltage (120V/220V/127V/240V), plug type (US NEMA, EU Schuko, UK BS, AU, BR, MX), motor wattage, LED driver spec | +0 days (variant build on shared line) |
| Cosmetic | Brushed stainless, matte black, custom powder-coat RAL color, glass panel color/tint, control panel icon set | +3-5 days for non-catalog color |
| Packaging | Retail carton with your brand, user manual localization (12+ languages), EAN/UPC barcode, country-specific labels (NOM-024, ENERGY STAR, CE) | +7-10 days for new artwork |
| Branding | Logo laser-etch or silk-screen on body, logo emboss on grille, branded control panel sticker, branded carton print | +0-3 days (depends on artwork) |
| Controls and UI | Touch-switch, gesture control, knob, remote, smartphone-app pairing, branded UI firmware (boot screen, alert tones) | +10-14 days for new firmware build |
For a baseline OEM (you provide the spec, we build to it), the structural, electrical, cosmetic, and packaging layers usually cover the project. For a baseline ODM (we provide the spec from our catalog, you rebrand), the structural and electrical layers are pre-locked and the customization work is in cosmetic, packaging, and branding. Either path lands on a prototype within 14 days.
If you are working from an existing retail SKU (e.g. re-creating a 30-inch/36-inch/42-inch wall-mounted hood), the JILU T01 product page is a useful starting spec sheet — 120V 60Hz or 220V 50Hz, copper motor, electronic touch + gesture controls, three size variants in brushed stainless.
OEM vs ODM: Which Model Fits Your Brand?
Most private-label conversations start with this question, and the answer depends on whether your brand already has an industrial design or is buying the design IP from us. Both models are real OEM/ODM programs; the difference is in who owns the design and how the IP flows.
OEM vs ODM Comparison
| Dimension | OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) | ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) |
|---|---|---|
| Definition | You provide the design, CAD files, and tooling specs. We build to your spec. | We provide the design from our catalog. You rebrand and re-package. |
| Design ownership | You own the design IP 100%. | We own the design IP. You get exclusive license in your geography. |
| Tooling ownership | You own the tooling, dies, and fixtures (JILU-OEM Tooling Custody Clause). | We retain the tooling. You license the design. |
| Typical MOQ | 30-50 units per SKU. | 100+ units per SKU. |
| Prototype turnaround | 14 days from confirmed spec sheet. | 7-10 days (catalog build, no engineering). |
| Best for | Brands with industrial design team, retail chain SKU re-creation, replacement of a discontinued model. | First-time private-label entrants, distributors building a brand from scratch, retailers testing a new category. |
| Unit cost (36-inch wall-mounted) | USD 95-220 FOB Shengzhou depending on spec complexity. | USD 75-140 FOB Shengzhou (catalog baseline). |
If your brand has an industrial design team and a clear product spec (cutout dimensions, control panel layout, finishes), OEM is usually the right path — you own the IP outright and your brand controls the product roadmap. If your brand is moving into the kitchen ventilation category for the first time and you want to ship a proven SKU under your brand, ODM is the right path — you skip the 6-12 month industrial design cycle and start with a working, certified product.
For the wholesale tier structure that sits underneath both OEM and ODM (MOQ tiers, production lead time by container size, QC checkpoints, shipping terms), see our JILU Wholesale Range Hood Program (2026).

Standard prototypes ship in 14 calendar days from confirmed spec sheet. The 14-day clock starts when we have (1) your signed PO or sample agreement, (2) your finalized spec sheet with dimensions and electrical details, and (3) your artwork files for logo/carton if any of those are customized. We will not start the clock until all three are in.
14-Day Prototype Workflow
| Day | Stage | Activity |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1-2 | Spec lock | Engineering review, BOM confirmation, artwork finalization, NDA execution. |
| Day 3-5 | Metal prep | Sheet metal cutting, bending, welding for first sample. Bracket and chassis assembly. |
| Day 6-8 | Motor and electrical | Copper motor install, control panel wiring, LED driver, capacitor, switch assembly. |
| Day 9-10 | Surface finish | Brushed stainless treatment, powder-coat if custom, logo laser-etch or silk-screen. |
| Day 11-12 | QA pass | Airflow test, noise test, electrical safety test, cosmetic inspection. First-sample photos and videos sent to buyer. |
| Day 13-14 | Pack and ship | Foam-mold packaging, carton label, export docs. Dispatch via DHL or FedEx from Shanghai PVG. |
For complex prototypes (custom UI firmware, non-standard cutout, new RAL powder-coat color), add 4-6 days. Rush 7-day prototypes are accepted with a 15% prototype fee adder and an air-freight upgrade from Shanghai. The prototype fee for a standard 36-inch wall-mounted hood is USD 380-650 per unit ex-works, refundable against the first production PO of 100+ units.
How Is Your Brand IP Protected?
Three contractual mechanisms cover the IP side of every OEM and ODM project. None of them are negotiable down — they are standard in our master supply agreement. If you need additional IP coverage (patent filing cooperation, escrow tooling custody, third-party escrow), we add that as a Schedule C to the MSA.
Three Layers of IP Protection
| Mechanism | Coverage | When It Applies |
|---|---|---|
| NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) | Mutual confidentiality on design files, CAD, BOM, artwork, customer list, pricing. 3-year term minimum, survives contract termination. | Signed before any spec sheet or artwork is exchanged. |
| Tooling Custody Clause | For OEM: all dies, molds, jigs, fixtures are titled to you and held in our custody with quarterly inventory audit. Transfer of custody on contract termination is 30 days. | Active for the life of the OEM program. |
| Exclusive Territory Schedule | For OEM and ODM: exclusivity granted by country or sub-region (e.g. Mexico only, GCC only, EU only) with minimum annual volume commitment and renewal terms. | Negotiated at MSA signing for orders 1,000+ units per year. |
We have run NDA-protected OEM programs for retailers in the US, Mexico, GCC, and EU since 2018 without a single brand-IP dispute. The tooling custody clause is enforced through a third-party tooling inventory audit (TUV Rheinland) every 12 months for OEM programs above 2,000 units per year. If you want to verify our reference brand relationships, see our About Us page for general company credentials and our FAQs for buyer questions on IP protection.
Can JILU Issue Certificates in Your Brand Name?
Yes. ETL (Intertek), CB (IECEE), CE (EU Declaration of Conformity), NOM (Mexico), and most regional safety and EMC certificates can be issued in your brand name as the private labeler, with JILU listed as the original manufacturer on the certificate. The certifier typically requires a private-labeler agreement on file plus a copy of your brand registration certificate.
Certificate Transfer Cost and Lead Time by Standard
| Certificate | Issuing Body | Cost per SKU | Lead Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| ETL (US/Canada) | Intertek | USD 1,800-3,200 | 4-6 weeks |
| CB (IECEE global) | TUV Rheinland, TUV SUD, Intertek | USD 1,500-2,800 | 4-5 weeks |
| CE (EU DoC + technical file) | Self-declared with technical file transfer | USD 1,200-2,000 | 2-3 weeks |
| NOM-003 (Mexico) | ANCE, NYCE | USD 2,500-4,500 | 4-6 weeks |
| RoHS / REACH compliance | Self-declared with lab test report | USD 600-1,200 | 1-2 weeks |
| INMETRO (Brazil) | TUV SUD, UL Brasil | USD 2,200-3,800 | 6-8 weeks |
The cost stacks linearly per SKU. For a 3-SKU OEM program (30-inch, 36-inch, 42-inch), plan for 3x the per-SKU cost. The strategic move is to start the highest-volume SKU first (almost always the 36-inch), validate the certifier's responsiveness, then add the 30-inch and 42-inch as addenda to the same certificate in weeks 7-10 — this saves 30-40% versus three independent certifications. For the full NOM workflow and the Mexico-specific buyer checklist, see our 127V Smart Range Hood OEM from China for Mexico guide. For CE technical file specifics, see our CE Documentation for Range Hood Imports (2026) guide.
What Does Quality Control Look Like on OEM Orders?
Every OEM and ODM production run includes four QC checkpoints, three of which can be performed or witnessed by the buyer or the buyer's nominated inspector. The fourth (in-process inline at 30% completion) is JILU-internal and feeds into the pre-shipment final inspection photo and video package.
Four OEM QC Checkpoints
| Checkpoint | When | Who Inspects | What Gets Verified |
|---|---|---|---|
| CP-1: Metal Sample Approval | Before bulk production starts | Buyer or buyer's QC team | First sample of cut body, brackets, chassis. Dimensional accuracy, weld quality, finish. |
| CP-2: During-Production Inline | 30% production completion | JILU internal QC | Inline airflow, noise, electrical safety. Photo log to buyer. |
| CP-3: Pre-Shipment Final (PSI) | 100% production completion | Buyer or 3rd-party (SGS/BV/TUV/AsiaInspection) | AQL 2.5 inspection per ISO 2859. Drop-test, carton-drop, vibration, full cosmetic. |
| CP-4: Container Loading | At Shanghai/Ningbo port | JILU logistics + buyer optional | Carton count verification, container photo log, seal number recorded. |
For OEM programs above 500 units, we recommend third-party PSI by SGS, BV, or TUV (USD 280-450 per man-day). For first-time OEM buyers, we recommend booking the buyer's QC team in person for CP-1 and CP-3 — the inspection cost is usually recovered by catching one cosmetic or wiring issue before bulk production completes. The full JILU production environment is documented on our Manufacturing Capabilities page.
